I Be Music: Spread – MLK

This version of SPREAD is called MLK and is inspired by Martin Luther King Jr and the struggle of People Of Color. It is our first iMix focusing on the power of storytelling through music and sound. Give it a listen and be transported back to a time in history where people were enslaved, transported to a foreign land, and fought for freedom by changing American culture.

Nica Rothschild and Thelonious Monk Everlasting Friendship

Posted in I Be Celebrity, I Be Music, I Be News, I Be Photos with tags , , , , on November 28, 2010 by ibemusic

Nica Rothschild was a baroness through her marriage to Jules de Koenigswarter, French ambassador to the U.S. and Canada.
She became friends with Monk during a European tour, and eventually became not only his patron but his muse.

There is a cool doc out called the Jazz Baroness by her great-niece Hannah Rothschild.

This is a great quote from Monk about his relationship with Nica(and a word of wisdom for those in a similar situation).
“Be sure that you want to have her for a girl or have her for a friend, because if you make love to a girl she ain’t gonna be your friend. Because you can have a friend, like Nica’s my friend, and I wouldn’t touch her. She’s the best friend I ever had.”

No Black Teenagers

African-American-Teenagers

I went to school for media and communication arts. It was there that I learned about media analysis. I also become aware of a lack of black images across the media. By this I mean a truthful representation of what it means to be a black person, or someone of the African Diaspora, in these modern times. This special iMix was inspired by this problem, this obstacle that we must overcome! Why? because some little boy or little girl is sitting in front of the tv, or computer, or MobDev(mobile device) trying to make sense of the world and their place in it! This iMix showcases great black music of the past, present, and the future.
